On Friday 1st of October 2021 Their Excellencies Francesco Mussoni (II) and Luca Simoncini (I) were officially invested as new Captains Regent of the Most Serene Republic of San Marino.

The Captains Regent constitute the supreme authority of the Republic of San Marino: they exercise their functions collegially and as Heads of State they are a super partes constitutional guarantee body, they represent national unity, they supervise the activities of all the other political bodies of the Republic.

They preside over the General Council, of which they are full members, convene and coordinate the Congress of State, preside over the Council of XII, the Council Commission for Justice Affairs, the Judicial Council, the Magisterium of the Order of Saint Agata and the Bureau of the Great and General Council.

The ceremony took place according to the official protocol, limiting the number of accesses to Palazzo Valloni, Palazzo Pubblico and the Basilica del Santo due to the current provisions against the COVID-19 epidemic.

H.E. Alojz Kovšca, President of the Council of State of the Republic of Slovenia, was invited to give the official speech.

The Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of San Marino was represented by the Apostolic Nuncio H.E. Mons. Emil Paul Tscherring who addressed a message of greeting to the new Captains Regent.

Ambassador H.E. Prof. Marcello Celestini, present at the ceremony, presented his congratulations to the two new Captains Regent on behalf of the Sovereign Order of Malta, recalling the strong ties existing between the Order of Malta and the Most Serene Republic of San Marino.
